AN acclaimed North Yorkshire gastropub has been ranked as one of the top restaurants in the UK.
The Star Inn, at Harome in Ryedale, has been ranked the 19th in the country in the National Restaurant Awards; not far behind Marco Pierre White’s restaurant Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons (12th), Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck (4th) and Michel Roux Jr’s restaurant, La Gavroche (11th).
It is the highest position for a restaurant located in the North of England and one of only two ranked Yorkshire restaurants. The pub also beat many Michelin-starred restaurants to the ranking.
Chef and proprietor Andrew Pern said: “'Being voted into the top twenty' restaurants in the UK is an absolutely amazing achievement for me, especially after 15 years at The Star Inn.
“To be judged by over 300 peers and fellow chefs from the industry, who are at the top of their game, is very humbling in a way.
“I'm very proud of what our 14th century thatched inn has to offer, as a modern day village pub which appeals to all walks of life with great regional food and accommodation, great locals and great ambience, and this recognition is an award for Ryedale and for Yorkshire.”
