A NEW club has been set up to help keen triathletes access training facilities and specialist support all year round.
Richmondshire Leisure Trust has worked with specialist triathlon equipment suppliers Tri Kudu to set up the club ahead of next year’s Olympic Games, which are expected to spark extra interest in the demanding sport.
The trust already had plans to offer triathlon training sessions when they were approached by a group of triathletes who were looking for specialist swimming coaching.
It is hoped that the new club will encourage the development and participation of triathlons in the local area.
Paul Taylor, a local triathlete, said: “We have a group of about 12 triathletes who compete regularly in the UK and abroad and we were looking to set up some regular swimming training for the winter.
“When we approached the RLT, they were eager to help. It soon became obvious that they have the facilities and the trained coaches, and we have the people, so it was an easy step to form the new club.”
Swimming training sessions have been arranged at Richmond Pool on Monday evenings between 7pm and 8pm, with further sessions to be announced soon.
The trust also has a number of bicycles that can be used by beginners to the sport.
Anyone interested in taking up triathlons or joining the new club can call Dave or Ryan at Richmondshire Leisure Trust on 01748-824581 or e-mail enquiries@rltrust.org.uk
