TALENTED will be hitting all the right notes this weekend at the Ripon Young Musician of the Year 2011 event.
Young players and singers will be showing their skills on Friday evening and all day on Saturday culminating with a concert at 7.30pm.
Joining the winners in the concert will be the string group Fiddlefingers and all events take place at Holy Trinity Church in Ripon.
This year's competition has been moved from early May to October to allow two winners to go on to the Young Musician Competition organised by Rotary International of Great Britain and Ireland.
Ripon Young Musicians of the Year offers an opportunity for players and singers at any level, from beginners to highly accomplished musicians, to perform to an audience and to have encouragement and constructive comments on their performance.
This year the adjudicator is Rob Buckland, an internationally-renowned saxophonist, teacher and composer, who is Professor of Saxophone at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Event founder David Winpenny said: “Moving the time of the competition - and opening it up to a slightly wider geographical area - has shown how many good young musicians there are in the area; we have competitors from 24 different schools taking part.“ Admission to the concert is £2 for adults at the door with children getting in free. Admission to the competition on Friday evening, from 7.15pm, and Saturday, from 9.30am, is also £2 and includes the evening concert.
