A VISITOR centre popular with tourists has launched a call for new volunteers to come forward to help with more specialist tasks.
The Station, in Richmond, opened in 2007 offering food, films and art and has become a busy community centre, as well as drawing in more than 300,000 visitors a year.
The venue already has 70 volunteers who help on a part time basis, but Jackie Edwards, who has been recruited as the new volunteers manager, is hoping to find more people to add to the roster.
Anyone who is willing and able to help will be welcome, but Mrs Edwards is particularly looking for people who have expertise in customer relations, IT skills, administration, and sales and marketing.
She said: “There are some exciting events coming up at The Station, including the open art exhibition, InVisible, and, with the school holiday period looming and The Station’s new website and literature attracting visitors from further afield, we desperately need more volunteers.
“We are asking people of all ages to come forward from young people looking for invaluable work experience through to retired helpers keen to keep busy and active.’ James Gravenor, chairman of The Station Trust, said the appointment of a dedicated volunteer manager would prove a huge asset to venue.
He added: “We operate as a charitable trust and have very limited funds so any help from the local community is always hugely appreciated.”
