SCHOOL pupils served up an exciting final in the latest leg of the North Yorkshire School Games.
North Yorkshire is piloting one of nine School Games projects in the country, as part of the Olympic Legacy. The initiative is designed to build something lasting for young people as a result of the London 2012 Olympic games.
Already young sports people in the county have represented their districts in the swimming and cricketing events and on Friday it was the turn of the volleyball and badminton players.
The events were held at York St John University, in York last Friday, June 24.
The volleyball tournament was won by the all-girls team from Eskdale School, Whitby, who represented Ryedale and Whitby.
St John Fisher’s School, representing Harrogate, came second and Ermysteds Grammar, representing Craven, came third.
The boys’ badminton final was won by Ermysteds Grammar.
Second was Rossett High School for Harrogate in second and Boroughbridge School, representing Hambleton district, came third.
In the girls’ tournament Rossett School came first, Skipton Girls School second and All Saints School, from York, came third.
Jo Bonsels, School Sports Co-ordinator for Rossett School Harrogate: "The North Yorkshire School Games Badminton event was a fantastic experience for our students.
"It provided them with an opportunity to compete at a level that they normally wouldn’t get chance to."
The North Yorkshire School Games finals take place at Queen Margaret’s School, Escrick Park, York, on July 3. Events will include athletics, football, netball and gymnastics.
