CIVIC leaders have marked Armed Forces Day by raising flags to support British service personnel in North Yorkshire.
Officials from Hambleton and Richmondshire District Councils took part in ceremonies to simultaneously fly the flag across the UK. They were joined by veterans, local cadets, civic dignitaries and forces personnel to see the special armed forces day flag raised at the Civic Centre, in Northallerton, and in Friary Gardens, Richmond.
Padre Wing Commander Ian Robinson from RAF Linton on Ouse addressed the Hambleton gathering, while Padre Colin McLeod, of the Scots Guards, spoke at Richmond.
Guests at the Hambleton ceremony were treated to a flypast by a four Hawks from 100 Squadron while a bugler played at Richmondshire.
Hambleton’s deputy leader councillor Ron Kirk said: "Our Armed Forces and veterans rightly deserve the nation's support and recognition."
Richmondshire chairman councillor Jill McMullon added: "The soldiers - and their families - have made, and continue to make, huge personal sacrifices to ensure the interests of our country are defended. "It was a huge privilage to honour them by raising the flag."
