Police are appealing for information following an assault after a group of men were asked to leave a pub.

The incident occurred at 11.50pm on Thursday, June 16, in Helmsley market place, in North Yorkshire, after several men were asked to leave the Royal Oak.

A disturbance then took place that resulted in a 31-year-old man from Wigston, Leicestershire, suffering head injuries. He was taken to the Friarage Hospital, in Northallerton, with head injuries and has now been discharged.

Two brothers, aged 29 and 32, from Peterlee, in County Durham, were arrested on suspicion of assault. They have now been released on police bail to allow for further enquiries.

PC Andrew Rogers, of the Malton safer neighbourhood team, said: "A number of people were drinking in the pub at the time of the incident. I ask them to contact me if they have not yet done so as they may have important information that could help our investigation.

"I would also like anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information about it, to come forward as soon as possible as I need to speak to them."
