A GROUP of church volunteers have spent a weekend carrying out small acts to help their local community.
Members of Richmond Pentecostal Church, based in the Zetland Christian Centre, on Victoria Road, spent two days cleaning graffiti, litter picking and repairing bus shelters as part of the church’s annual No Strings event.
In total the 166 volunteers collected more than 200 bags of litter from play parks, roadsides and alleyways around the town.
The event is now in its sixth year and was arranged in conjunction with the police and the district council.
The weekend also included a fun day for local residents with free face painting and a barbecue, where members of the public were also given small gifts such as flowers or chocolate.
A group of children also delivered cakes to residential homes in the town.
Ben Dowding, a senior minister at the Pentecostal Church, said: "We believe in building a church that’s part of the community. A church that’s relevant, enthusiastic and generous.
"We believe in faith not just being something we talk about but something we put into action. No Strings is just an expression of that in the community that we love being part of."
Members of the Pentecostal Church hold No Strings projects several times a year, as well as running a regular programme of events for youths and children.
