INTREPID mum Ash Barnard is off to visit some of the great houses on North Yorkshire - during an epic charity bike ride.

She’ll be using pedal-power to tackle a circular route taking in Hovingham Hall, Clifton Castle and Ripley Castle to raise funds for the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation.

Ash, of East Harlsey, near Northallerton, is a trustee of the Foundation and had originally planned her 120-mile marathon for last year.

However after injuring both legs in separate accdients she had to postpone the ride - and is now keener than ever to complete the fund-raiser.

“I am raring to go now because I've been thinking about this challenge for so long and I am really looking forward to starting,“ she said.

The ride gets underway on June 28 and if all goes well Ash should be completing it on July 1.

The Foundation supports charitable projects for young people and was founded in 2010., marking the 18th anniversary of the Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards, which have raised more than £850,000 for young people and was designed to allow direct funding of projects.

Foundation chairman Peter McCormick said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support the Foundation has received and Ash's cycling challenge is a great example of how people can help us to help young people across the region.”
