A DRAMA group that has been entertaining people for decades is about to come under the spotlight itself.
The Allerton Players, based in Northallerton will be celebrating its 70th birthday next year and to mark the occasion as history of the group is to be produced.
Formed in 1942 the Allertonshire Players, as the group was originally called, grew out of an evening class at the town’s Allertonshire school and it has put on plays and entertainments ever since.
“The story of the Players is very varied and interesting,’ said Deborah Hugill, a current member who is compiling the history,.
“We felt it would be good to write it down to celebrate our anniversary.
“We have access to some records to help us but we would also love to include the memories of members and ex-members, and any photographs and so on they may have.
“We know that many people have enjoyed getting involved over the years and we hope they will be able to help us.“ Anyone who has anything they would like to contribute to the history can contact Deborah on 01609 778649 or by email at allertonplayers@hotmail.co.uk
