FEARS have been raised for the welfare of a serving British soldier who has gone missing after being due to report to a military base in the region.
Mehmet Ali Osman was last seen by his family at an address in Southwark, south London, on May 31.
The 25-year-old was expected to present himself at Catterick Garrison, in North Yorkshire, but did not report for duty.
The Metropolitan Police, which is investigating his disappearance, thinks he may have travelled to an address in Fife, Scotland, before going missing again.
A spokesman said: "Mehmet never kept his appointment. His family and police are now very concerned for his welfare."
Mr Osman is described as being about 5ft 11ins and of proportionate, muscular build.
A Ministry of Defence spokesman confirmed Army bosses are aware the soldier is absent without leave, but declined to comment further.
