PEOPLE who want to delve into their family histories are being offered expert tips on how to go about it.
Family history skills events, led by experienced family history tutor Jackie Depelle, will be held at the County Records Office, in Northallerton, this Saturday, and again on Saturday, September 24.
With contributions from archivists, both days will include getting the best from the internet, approaches to Latin and palaeography (old handwriting), and family tree recording software.
The cost is £25, including light refreshments and buffet lunch.
Councillor Chris Metcalfe, North Yorkshire County Council's executive member for adult and community services, said: "Finding out about your family's roots can be one of the most interesting and rewarding of activities, and our expert help will set you off in the right direction."
To book, call the record office on 01609-777585, or archives@northyorks.gov.uk
