CHILDREN have been learning about the appliance of science at a special event bringing together college and primary school students.
Pupils from Osmotherley, Swainby and Potto CE Primary School spent the time at Northallerton College enjoying a fun-filled day of experiments.
Guided by the college’s child care students, the youngsters took part in a variety of activities including making rockets, bubble-blowing and art.
Each experiment was designed to spark interest in science and art and also familiarise the younger children with college life.
College tutor Lesley Parker said: “The whole day was based on water with some activities looking at science others art. Our students got to plan the day, carry the event out and evaluate it.”
Primary school head teacher Penny Vernon added: “It was a fantastic day and a break from the normal routine. It adds another dimension to their work on water. It gives the different age groups the chance to work together and it is great for us to see them interact.
“Secondary school can also seem a bit daunting when you are at primary and these days really help the younger children appreciate what a friendly place the college is.”
Lower sixth student Charlotte Myers, 16, said: "It has been really good working with the younger children especially as the activities went so well.”
