RAIL WALK: The Wensleydale Railway is holding a guided walk on Tuesday, in memory of former Northern Rail conductor Alex Holden, who died last year. Walkers will catch the 9.50am service from Leeming Bar to Redmire, followed by a seven-mile walk to Bolton Castle. Tickets cost £20 including return travel, guided walk and a barbecue lunch. HISTORY TALK: A new season of illustrated talks in the village hall at Fremington, near Reeth begins, on Monday, June 6, and runs until Bank Holiday Monday, August 29. The first talk, 'Those who left the Dales' is by Glenys Marriott. The programme covers a range of topics including art and crafts, history, ecology, travel and personal stories. Talks begins at 8pm and proceeds are in support of St Andrew's church, Grinton. Admission is £3 per adult, £1 per child, including light refreshments. CAKE STALL: Thirsk Cricket Club is holding a cake stall on Saturday, June at 4, Thirsk Market, to raise money for club funds. Thirsk Cricket and Thirsk Bowls Clubs are having a joint bingo evening at the Athletic Club, in Newsham Road, Thirsk, on Saturday, June 4, from 8pm, admission is £3 to include six cards.

HOSPICE CASH: The Richmond-based support group of St Teresa’s Hospice, in Darlington, held a "Cash in the Attic" antique auction on Friday, May 20, to celebrate the charity’s 25th anniversary. It raised £535.
