MINIATURE versions of popular landmarks like Thirsk Racecourse, the Ritz Cinema and Sutton Bank have been created by school pupils.

The 3D models, made by schoolchildren from several primary schools around Thirsk, will be displayed in the ‘Thoughts of Thirsk’ exhibition, held this weekend.

Local Artist Jane Grainger, who has worked with the children on their artwork said: "Each group of pupils was asked to choose a place or building of interest from the Thirsk area and to create a work of art based on that theme using a 60cm square piece of MDF board and a variety of craft materials including recycled card, paint, tissue paper, newspaper and glue.

"It was lovely to see the ideas and creativity of the children involved."

The exhibition will be open daily at St Mary’s Church from May 28 to June 4, from 10am to 4pm, except on May 29 when it is open 12pm to 4pm.

Admission is free but donations to church funds are welcome. Home-made refreshments and light lunches will be served in the crypt on Bank Holiday May 30.
