MORE than 100 children have taken part in a swimming gala involving 12 local schools.
The children competed in eleven events in the Thirsk Area Inter Primary School Swim Gala, held at Thirsk and Sowerby Leisure Centre.
Organised by the Thirsk White Horse Swim team the gala included 33 different races for various age groups, with competitions in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and relays.
Thirsk Primary School was named the winner of the big school category, while Topcliffe School was the small school winner.
Two teachers, Kate McEvoy from Brafferton School and Helen Hallam, from Knayton School, were also rewarded with medals for their enthusiasm and high level of support for their teams on the poolside.
