LOVERS of good food and traditional trains are being invited to enjoy both at the same time.
A steam-hauled train will next month be setting ff through some of the region’s most beautiful scenery in aid of charity.
The Taste of Wensleydale Express, on July 8, will be raising vital funds for Herriot Hospice Homecare, which provides care to terminally-ill patients in their own homes across Hambleton and Richmondshire.
Tickets are on sale now for £20 which includes the return fare on the from Leeming Bar to the end of the line at Redmire; beer and cheese tasting en route, a trackside Dales hog roast, and Brymor ice cream and on-board entertainment throughout.
The specially-chartered train, pulled by a Black Five (45305), departs from Leeming Bar Station at 7pm for what organisers hope will be a summer evening trip to remember.
The Wensleydale Railway’s customer service manager Amanda Pearson said: “Herriot Hospice Homecare is a splendid charity that does tremendous work.
We are happy to support it in any way we can.”
Also supporting the event is cheesemaker the Wensleydale Creamery, based in Hawes, and the Wensleydale Brewery, from Bellerby, near Leyburn.
