A TEAM from an outdoor activities club are to tackle the Lands End to John O’Groats bike ride for charity.
The 12 members of the Swaledale Outdoor Club are aiming to complete the 956 mile ride in four days and nights by cycling as a relay, in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
The team, which is based in Richmond, will be self supported during the ride and hope to raise £2000 for the society’s services in Richmondshire and Hambleton.
The idea for the ride came from James Gravenor, who mentioned it in passing to the group and was surprised by their enthusiasm.
He said: "The preparation for such a trip - identifying the route and the logistics of putting the relay together - has been a massive undertaking all by itself. As a group, we decided to sponsor the Alzheimer’s Society for the valuable work they do supporting those with dementia and their carers, and the vital research to try and find a cure for the awful disease."
Pam Crawford, support service manager for Alzheimer’s Society in Hambleton and Richmond, said: "We are very grateful that the Swaledale Outdoor Club are giving their time to support Alzheimer’s Society.
"As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like the team to help us continue our vital work. We are very impressed with the challenge the team are going to undertake and wish them every success on their ride."
The other team members are John Hallett, Anth Quinn, Leigh Gravenor, Vanessa Robinson, Paul Smith, Barbara Gravenor, Liz Corner, Blake Gravenor, Judith Webb, Charles Knowles and Graham Turner.
