ACTORS will be delving into the archives next weekend, bringing the past to life.

They will be using historical documents to tell the real stories of the people who once lived in North Yorkshire, from the rich to the poor.

There will be the chance to meet, among others, the likes of country gent Christopher Crow of Kiplin Hall, near Richmond, and discover how he amassed his wealth.

And at the other end of the social spectrum there’s the chance to find out about the impoverished and desperate life of Sophia Constable of Whitby, arrested for stealing a loaf of bread aged just 11.

The re-enactments will be part of the Archives at Dusk event at the County Records Office in Northallerton next Friday evening.

The Records Office holds millions of documents dating from the 12th-century to the present and visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of activities.

The event runs from 6pm to 9pm. Entry os free and children are welcome. Refreshments will be available.
