POLICE are hunting a hard-hearted thief who stole cash destined for the airborne life-savers who depend on charity.
They money had been raised by pub regulars in Northallerton for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
But the collection box was stolen from the Oddfellows’ Arms, near All Saints’ Church, at the weekend by a thief who also stole money from behind the bar.
And now police have turned to the public for help in tracking down the thief - which struck sometime between midnight last Friday and 9.30am on Saturday morning.
Detective Constable Paula Eccles said: “I would like to speak to anyone who knows anything about this burglary or can identify the person who stole the charity box and money.
“I am also asking that if anyone has seen the green Yorkshire Air Ambulance collection tin in unusual circumstances that they get in touch as soon as possible.”
Anyone who can help is urged to contact DC Eccles on 0845 6060 247. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555-111.
