A PAIR of cliff-dwelling peregrines are set to become a tourist attraction in a seaside resort this summer.

The RSPB will be helping visitors to Scarborough to catch a glimpse of the birds of prey as they raise their young on the cliffs.

From Thursday, May 12, staff and volunteers from the organisation will be manning a special viewpoint on Marine Drive, kitted out with powerful telescopes and binoculars.

The birds have been resident at the site for at least six years and have produced three to four chicks each year.

It is hoped that they will have some new young hatching soon.

Laura Popely, the RSPB’s Scarborough information assistant, said: "I am really excited about showing people these amazing birds in action as they can reach speeds of up to 200 miles per hour.

"We’ve got great views of the nest from our viewpoint so visitors should be in for an unforgettable experience."

The viewpoint will be staffed every Thursday to Sunday, between 10.30am and 4.30pm until July 17.
