RESIDENTS in Whitby can get advice on how to have a right royal knees-up.
When William and Kate tie the knot on April 29 this year Scarborough Council are offering help for people to hold street parties to coincide with the public holiday.
Council officers Matthew Joseph and Gemma Ryan will take people through the necessary steps and will design bespoke training manuals for groups wanting to stage a street party.
The manuals will include help dealing with road closures, insurance, entertainment licenses, and how to recoup costs.
Officials think the occasion is likely to spark a carnival atmosphere across the country, with thousands of patriotic Brits tuning into televisions and big screens.
Royalist and cabinet member for tourism and culture Councillor Janet Jefferson, said: "The visit of the Queen to Scarborough last year showed the strength of support there is for the Royal Family in this borough and I’m expecting there to be a similar buzz in the run-up to the wedding of William and Kate.
"I would love to see that old-fashioned sense of community spirit alive and well in our streets, parks and open spaces and I’m delighted the council is able to offer some practical help to groups and organisations thinking about holding a party."
The training days take place at 10am on February 2 at Scarborough Town Hall and at 6pm on February 9 at Church House in Flowergate, Whitby.
