A WELL known pub and restaurant on the North York Moors has lost its Michelin Star in this year’s copy of the famous guide.
The Star Inn, at Harome, near Helmsley, has held a Michelin Star since it was first granted one in 2002.
The business has been run by Andrew and Jacquie Pern since 1996 and the couple said they only found out they had lost the award through a customer’s comments.
Mrs Pern said: "We never know when we’ve been visited or get any feedback, but we were quite shocked as the response we have from customers is always very positive.
"A lot of people eat with us on a regular basis – on average we are doing 1,000 covers a week – and our aim is to ensure we consistently offer a high standard and customers are well looked after."
The Black Swan, at Oldstead, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, has been given a Michelin Rising Star award for the second year running.
The family run restaurant and pub is owned by Tom and Anne Banks and their sons, James and Tommy, help out.
James Banks said: "They give rising stars to restaurants that are on the right lines in terms of getting a star but need more consistency.
"It’s very pleasing after all of the hard work that we have put in over the last four years and it’s really nice.
"You can only get a rising star for two years so hopefully next year we will get a full star."
The Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2011 marks the publication’s 100th anniversary.
