A CAMPAIGN to encourage drivers to take more care in wintry conditions has been launched by community safety experts.
The annual winter safe driving campaign by the Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership is timed to follow on from the Christmas campaigns, as many people often fail to heed the advice once the festive period is over.
Dave Pitt, Richmond station manager, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "As we all know from the last three weeks bad weather can strike suddenly so it is especially important to always be prepared.
"We should all carry around emergency gear at all times and be prepared for all conditions. The last few weeks have seen many accidents – some serious. "One accident is one too many and we want to ensure that everyone gets around the roads of Richmond in safety at all times of the year."
The campaign is urging drivers to plan all journeys before setting out, allow extra time and remember to drive safely and to the road conditions.
A winter driving roadshow where motorists can talk to experts will be held in Richmond Market Place on Saturday.
Winter driving packs are available at the Richmondshire District Council community offices in Richmond, Colburn, Reeth, Leyburn and Catterick.
