A GROUP committed to greener living are sowing the seeds for a future without oil.
The Northallerton and Villages in Transition Group is exploring ways in which people will be able to feed themselves when the cost and supply of oil becomes uncertain.
And the group is hosting a special event on January 30 to glean the views of local people.
The day will also look at practical solutions to improve the quality of life for people in the area through the development of a sustainable, low-carbon lifestyle and economy.
"This is being held in response to concerns that although oil is still being discovered new reserves will not be able to satisfy future demand causing an increase in the price of everyday goods such as food," said the chair of the local community forum, Sally Anderson.
"There have also been concerns expressed about continuing oil dependency and the significant environmental costs as more efforts are made to extract lower quality oil resources."
She added: "Our event will provide members of the local community with the opportunity to promote locally-sourced food.
"They can share their knowledge, ask questions, talk to people who have expertise or skills in local food production and find out how they can get involved in helping the local community feed itself."
The event takes place from 10am until 2pm at Northallerton Town Hall. Refreshments will be provided free of charge.
