A SIX month pregnant woman stranded when her car stuck in heavy snow had to be rescued from a remote moorland road.

She became trapped when her car became bogged down on Blakey Ridge, which crosses the North York Moors, on Saturday, January 2.

North Yorkshire Police battled through snow drifts four feet deep to reach the women who was one of several drivers stuck around 2.20pm.

Amongst the others on the road between Hutton-Le-Hole and Castleton was a women with a three-year-old child.

In places it was so treacherous the police had to walk in front of their 4x4 vehicle to guide it.

Aided by North Yorkshire County Council staff and farmers they took the drivers to The Lion Inn, on Blakey Ridge.

Inn owner Barry Crossland said: "We had about 60 people and a plough managed to get through and it left in a convoy.

"One woman six months pregnant who was stuck two miles away was one of 25 people who stayed overnight and left on Sunday.

"The snow just kept coming and it was a complete white-out. We’ve had people stuck here before and once had some stuck for four days."

One reveller at England’s highest pub has been trapped by the freezing weather for four days due to seven foot high snow drifts.

Courtney Dickson-Brown, 17, a West Yorkshire student has been at The Tan Hill Inn, near Reeth, North Yorkshire, since going to a New Year’s Eve party there.

A former employee of the pub situated at 1,732ft above sea level she was one of 30 people stuck at the inn.

All of the others got clear on Sunday, January 3, leaving Miss Dickson-Brown, who was visiting her boyfriend Sean Maguire, behind.

She said: "I didn’t think it was safe to drive back home on the icy roads as I only passed my test recently.

"I have to be back for college on Wednesday, January 6, 80 miles away and I’ll have to try to get back for then."
