POLICE have been cleaning up a North Yorkshire town - quite literally.
Officers in Thirsk rolled up their sleeves to get involved with a multi-agency clean-up of the area, helped by youngsters from Thirsk School.
The main focus of the operation was Carrs Field which was left to the town in a will by a local woman, specifically for the youth of Thirsk to use.
The aim of the operation was to rejuvenate the field and to establish exactly what local young people would like to see it used for.
The Safer Neighbourhood Team were joined by partners including Hambleton Community Safety Partnership, Broadacres Housing, Thirsk Clock, Street Scene, Carrs Field Trust, the Army, the RAF and a representative from the Football Association.
Sergeant Sharon Findlay said: "The day was an absolute success, despite the terrible weather.
"The youngsters who came along were fantastic and we shared ideas about establishing a long-term plan to make Carrs Field a place they can really enjoy."
The clean-up team also carried out a litter-picking operation on the Hambleton Estate, Norby Park and Long Street areas of the town.
The project was carried out as part of Not in My Neighbourhood Week, a Home Office initiative aimed at tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in local communities.
