A JAMES Herriot-themed afternoon tea has been organised to raise funds for a North Yorkshire hospice.

The James Herriot Afternoon Tea sees Dr Rosie Page, daughter of Alf Wight – better known as James Herriot – host an afternoon tea where people can hear tales of Thirsk’s most famous vet and ask questions, all while raising funds for Herriot Hospice Homecare.

The event takes place at The Reubens in Leeming Bar on March 25 and Dr Page, who is a Trustee of Herriot Hospice Homecare, said: “I’m delighted to be hosting a Herriot-themed afternoon tea, where people can come along and hear anecdotes of my father, enjoy an afternoon tea and raise money for Herriot Hospice Homecare.

“I’ll be talking about what dad was like and why and how he decided to write a book at the age of 50.

"I’ll also be answering any questions people have about my father, the real James Herriot.

“Tickets are available now, so come along and support a vital local hospice providing care and support to people across our communities in Hambleton and Richmondshire.”

Herriot Hospice Homecare provides free personalised care to enable people to live comfortably and with dignity in their own home during the last weeks of their life.

Each year, the charity supports almost 600 people in Hambleton and Richmondshire.

Tickets for the afternoon tea, which are limited, cost £20, and can be booked by calling 01677- 427850.
