A SCRABBLE club born last summer is hunting for new members to join its ranks.

Richmond Scrabble Club meets at Richmondshire Cricket Club, in Hurgill Road in the town, and currently has 12 members but would like more people to attend.

All Scrabble players are welcome, from those who like to play regularly, to visiting players who are just passing through; from players who are very good to those who want to improve.

Founder Angela Corrie said: "Some players have two games and then go home. Others might get three or five games in. It’s up to you."

She said she wanted the club to have no membership subscriptions nor weekly fees so the cricket club suited the bill.

After advertising around the town, including a book shop, library and in Richmond Online, five players showed up on the first evening and the Richmond Scrabble Club was born.

She added: "For those who are interested, we play a league every month with a policy of free challenges. On the social side, the club enjoyed an excellent meal at the cricket club in December, with further social events to be planned in the future.

The players meet at 7pm every Wednesday at the Richmondshire Cricket Club.
