TWO school leavers have been given an award dedicated to the late John Dennis, who was the former chair of governors at their school.

Year 11 pupils Megan Howlett and Euan Deighton of Northallerton School and Sixth Form College, were awarded the annual John Dennis Award in a celebration assembly.

Megan was recognised for her dedication in supporting younger school pupils, who wanted to learn the piano, and was also recognised for committing her time to school productions.

She said: "I am very honoured to receive this prestigious award and would like to thank both staff and peers for recognising my efforts."

Euan, who won the Ogden Trust Physics Prize last year, was also recognised for for his achievements throughout his time.

He said: "It is a great achievement especially when all the fellow candidates were very worthy nominees for the award.

"It is a great feeling to be voted for by fellow students and staff."

Speaking about their achievements, Mr Bunn, head of Year 11, said: "I am enormously proud of and proud to be associated with Year 11s.

"It has been an absolute pleasure to see them grow and mature into fine young people.

"Megan and Euan are worthy recipients of this year’s award, as they have both epitomised what the school stands for and have been influential figures in the school community. I wish Megan, Euan and rest of Year 11 the very best for their future endeavours”.
