A WORRIED daughter whose father was rushed to the James Cook Hospital weeks before her wedding has thanked the hospital staff who saved his life.
Becky Newton was so impressed she got her running shoes out and completed the Great North Run raising £1,177, with the help of her mother, Alison, who baked cakes.
Chris Newton, 58, who is the director of finance at the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, was taken to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at the hospital with sepsis, a potentially life threatening condition which is triggered by an infection.
Thanks to the care offered by the unit, Mr Newton was back on his feet in time for the wedding and managed to walk his daughter down the aisle.
Becky, now Mrs Newitt who lives in Malton with husband Jack, said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to the CICU team at James Cook who cared for my father. I am grateful for the high quality of care and attention he received, and was so happy to present the cheque to the team.”
Mr Newton added: “I had no real knowledge of sepsis and the speed and catastrophic effect it has on the body.
"The sheer professionalism and kindness of colleagues from the Trust was overwhelming, and my pride comes from Becky’s desire to run for the CICU team, as well as from the beautiful bride she made on her big day.”
