THE legacy of the Tour de France has continued for many months. In Bedale, although the actual tour did not come through the town, people entered into the spirit of the global event with a major celebration in Bedale Hall including a big screen.
Now two local charities have benefitted from funds raised during the celebrations.
Bedale Hall became Le Café June on Sunday, July 6, to serve tea and cakes to the crowd in the park, watching the second day of the race on the big screen; organised by Edna Wright, the homemade scones rapidly sold out and raised £535 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The town also embraced the idea of yellow bikes, started in Bainbridge, nearly 200 were produced locally to decorate shops and houses. Individually made by Dave Allison and his team of painters, Brian Lewis and Brian Booker, they were sold through the Food Weighouse and raised £2000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
