PUPILS at Mowbray School in Bedale took part in a red carpet event to celebrate their part in helping make a change.
The school was awarded the best project for this year in the Get Set to Make a Change awards for their work with elderly residents of the town's Millings care home, where they played and organized special disability games, including balloon badminton and dancing on the Wii.
Karen Pickles, Deputy Head at the school said: ‘The project has built up pupils self- esteem and confidence in their own abilities as well as developing communication skills and empathy between our students and the care home residents.”
The awards are funded by the Big Lottery as part of the legacy from the 2012 Olympics youth engagement programme with over 7,000 pupils taking part.
Jan Paterson, Chief Executive of the British Olympic Foundation said: ‘Two years on from London 2012 I am delighted to see so many young people still inspired by the Games and the Olympic Values of excellence, friendship and respect. Get Set to Make a Change has turned inspiration into action by giving young people the opportunity to make an important difference in their own communities. “
The awards were held at Headingley in Leeds.
