A DRIVER has died following a collision with a lorry near York.

Police are looking for witnesses after the accident at 2.47pm on Saturday, March 1.

It happened on the A1246 between Fairburn and the junction with the A63 near the Selby Fork Hotel in North Yorkshire.

A lorry, registered in Bulgaria and driven by a 56-year-old man from there, was travelling towards Fairburn when it was in collision with a black Renault Clio travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver, a 19-year-old from the Leeds area, was cut free from his car by fire crews, but died from his injuries. His next of kin have been informed, but police are not yet in a position to release his identity.

The driver of the HGV was taken to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield with minor injuries.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and would like to speak to the driver of a pale coloured car seen in the area at the time of the collision, who may be a vital witness.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone else who was travelling along the same stretch of road in either direction and saw either vehicle prior to the crash, or who witnessed the actual collision.
