Electronic bills: City of York Council is encouraging local council tax payers to sign up to receive their council tax bills by email. Printing and posting the bills costs the authority some £30,000 a year and it is hoped that figure could be significantly reduced. Log on to york.gov.uk

Terry’s war: Goddards in York, the former family home of the Terry family and now the regional base of the National Trust, reopens to the public on March 1 with a new display for 2014 - Terry’s and War. Running until June 18, it tells the story of how the Terry family and life at their famous chocolate factory were affected by war – both at home and abroad.
