A TEENAGER from Bedale is set for a life on the ocean wave after passing out at HMS Raleigh as a sailor in the Royal Navy.
Josh Coupe, a former student at Bedale High School, is a trainee Warfare Specialist after completing his 10 week basic training at the Royal Navy training base in Cornwall.
During the course, the 18-year-old was given an induction into the Royal Navy, learning skills that he will rely upon throughout his time in the service. The course ends with the passing-out-parade attended by families and friends.
Josh who previously worked in a fast-food restaurant said: "I joined the Royal Navy to travel the world. It’s great to have completed training and I’m really proud of my achievements.”
With the first phase of his training complete Josh is heading off to HMS Collingwood in Hampshire for his professional course training as a specialist in mine warfare, learning how to detect mines and minefields using sonar and how to launch and operate the remote-controlled mine-disposal vehicle.
