RIPON Choral Society is cutting a contemporary dash with its upcoming concert - by featuring works from two of Britain’s best-known living composers.
Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum to celebrate the Millennium and premiered at the Royal Albert Hall in London that year.
Subtitled A Mass for Peace, it has subsequently become one of the Welshman’s best-loved works, describing the horrors of war but also offering the hope of peace as an end to armed conflict.
English composer John Rutter brings a festive spirit to proceedings. Composed in 1990, his popular Magnificat was conceived as a "bright Latin-flavoured fiesta.”
The concert takes place on March 29 at 7.30pm in Ripon Cathedral, with conductor John Dunford and soloists Sophie Pullen (soprano) and Charlotte Tetley (mezzo-soprano).
Tickets are available online at riponchoralsociety.org.uk, in person at Alan’s Gallery, Kirkgate, Ripon or call 01765-601856.
