A SCHOOL receptionist is stepping down after 43 years to concentrate on voluntary work.
Pat Chapman said she had enjoyed seeing generations of pupils pass through Thirsk School and Sixth Form College since starting working there as a supervisory assistant, teaching typing and working in the office.
Mrs Chapman, who is chairman of the Lambert Memorial Hospital League of Friends, volunteers at the Ritz Cinema and is a member of Sowerby Parish Council, said she would devote extra time to a range of community projects.
“People keep on telling me that I am the face of the school and I will really miss the interaction with the children,” she said.
Headteacher Stuart Mason said Mrs Chapman had witnesses and been part of the history of the school and was recognised by staff and students for her kind and generous personality.
He added: “Pat is not only a valued member of the Thirsk community but is a treasured and special member the Thirsk School and Sicth Form College community.
“She has sat at her desk in reception as thousands of staff and students have passed through the doors and Pat will have helped almost every one of them in some way.”
