THE outgoing chairman of Hambleton District Council has handed over £2,610 to charity.
During her year in office Councillor Bridget Fortune raised money for six charities from across the district and each received £435.
They included Ministry of Defence Hospital Units in Northallerton and Catterick, RAF Linton and RAF Leeming Families Social and Welfare groups, Macmillan Cancer Support and the homeless charity SASH.
“I was honoured to be the face of Hambleton and showcase the area and the wonderful people in the district,” she said.
“I was lucky enough to see the Olympic Torch and attend a Royal Garden party – it was an privilege and a pleasure to represent the council at the events.
“And I was also pleased to be able to use my chairman’s year to raise money for charities that have special significance to me and which benefit local people.”
