THE annual search to find the finest young musicians in the Ripon area is now underway.

Ripon Young Musicians of the Year aims to encourage the talent of young people who live, are at school or have private music lessons within 15 miles of the centre of the city.

The seven different classes offer an opportunity for players and singers at any level, from beginners to highly-accomplished musicians, to perform to an appreciative audience.

This year’s competition is being organised by Ripon Rotary Club, the Rotary Club of Ripon Rowels and the Inner Wheel of Ripon Rowels, with help from founders and organisers David and Sheila Winpenny.

Mr Winpenny said: “The Ripon Young Musicians competition is now firmly established as an important date in the musical calendar of the area, and we know that we shall once again be welcoming lots of talented young people as we celebrate music-making in the area.”

The 2013 competition takes place on November 22 and 23 at Holy Trinity Church in Ripon. Leaflets and entry forms are available at the local library and leisure centre and at other outlets in and around the city. They will also be sent to schools and private music teachers. Full information and entry forms are also available on the website at rymy.co.uk.
