PASSENGERS can pay what they think a trip on a heritage railway line is worth next week as part of a scheme to encourage more visitors to come to the Yorkshire Dales.
The Wensleydale Railway is being thrown open over the half term holiday week from May 25 to June 2.
The line takes passengers on a 16 mile journey from Leeming Bar through Bedale and up into Wensleydale, calling at Leyburn and finally Redmire.
General manager Nigel Park said: "In these days of ever increasing rail fares we thought we would do something a bit different.
"We hope people will come along, take a ride and then pay what they feel the trip was worth.
“We know it’s a slightly off the wall idea, and that some people will think we‘ve gone mad, but we want to show Wensleydale to more people than ever before, and we think that they will agree with us that it’s a great place to visit and will be happy to make a contribution after their trip.”
