Bedale volunteer minibus marks 20 years of providing transport this year with a move to new premises.
The bus which works closely with the Dales Care Centre in Bedale providing transport for elderly and vulnerable people runs in conjunction with the volunteer car scheme.
It was set up in 1993 to provide specially adapted transport for the local community and is supported by a coordinator and volunteer drivers and escorts. All volunteers have CRB clearance.
The new office is on the ground floor through the archway at Bedale Hall with entry directions signposted from the Tourist Information Centre and on the main entrance door.
The present bus can carry 13 passengers plus the driver or seven passengers and two wheelchairs. They also do a weekly Wednesday market trip to Northallerton on request, taking passengers door to door.
Volunteer Malcolm Bloor said:”This really is a vital and unique service that we offer. We work very closely with Dales-Care which provides a huge boost for elderly people in this area. It means that people in the outlying villages can come and have a lovely meal, company and interest.
“The mini bus is also available to other groups for trips to concerts or events at very reasonable cost. The whole point is to try and meet the needs of the community.”
