A RICHMOND tea room has raised more than £1,000 for the Great North Air Ambulance after a month-long event recording how far staff members walked while at work.
Cross View Tea Rooms, Richmond, held a “marchathon” in March, with all members of staff wearing pedometers for the month to measure how many steps they took.
Customers paid £1 to guess the total distance travelled, and the closest guess was made by Sue Holden.
Cafe owner Cath Muir said: “My husband Ian and I decided to run the event to celebrate our 10th anniversary at the cafe.
“Customers raised £510 with donations from guesses, which we match-funded, then a further £170 was raised though a raffle, making a total of £1,190.”
A cheque was presented to local fundraiser Stacy Hucker from the Great North Air Ambulance at the end of last month by Mr and Mrs Muir, staff member Diane Foster and Christine Kingsland who was rescued by GNAA.
