Richmond Town Football Club under-7s enjoyed their first tournament victory at the weekend when they triumphed in the Ferryhill seven-a-side competition.
The team worked hard all day to come back from 3 - 0 down against Shildon in their first match, losing to Newton Aycliffe by a goal in their second and then winning every other match to claim their first tournament trophy.
The boys were flying high to victory by the time they reached the semi-final against Newton Aycliffe which they won 7-2.
Luke Ward, match goalkeeper, had a fantastic game, saving some great shots from their opponents.
The final saw Richmond Town meet Shildon for the second time that afternoon. Richmond Town's defenders Will Rutterford and Jay Haxwell never stopped working all match, midfielders Joe Syddall, Phillip Wozny, Jacob Dunn and Fraser Proudlock played some great balls through to the club's striker Finlay Tulip who sealed the victory with two glorious goals, who went on to be crowned goal scorer of the tournament after scoring 11 goals.
The team's coach Jon Rutherford said: "I'm so proud of the boys - all of them worked really hard in every match.
“This was our first tournament so we really didn't expect to win - the boys were over the moon and rightly so - they deserved it."
