SUPPORTERS of Herriot Hospice Homecare will be donning their pyjamas with their walking boots on June 1 for a walk to remember.

This year will mark Herriot Hospice Homecare’s 21st anniversary year.

Organisers hope the Moonlight Pyjama Walk will be a twist to their annual fundraising event The Midnight Walk.

Last year more than 40 supporters took part in the event and raised £2,072 towards the Herriot Hospice Homecare’s running costs.

The Northallerton charity helps patients with life-limiting illness in their own homes throughout Hambleton and Richmondshire.

Walkers this year get the opportunity to choose between a three or six mile route around the Thirsk area.

After the walk, midnight will signal for the walkers to have the opportunity to release environmentally-friendly wish lanterns - allowing them to make a wish or light a lantern for a loved one.

A donation of £5 is asked for the lanterns, with all proceeds going directly to Herriot Hospice Homecare.

Under-16s must be accompanied by a parent and under-18s must have parental consent to participate.

Registration for the event, costing £10, is now open.

Leanne Hodgson, a fundraiser for the charity, said: “We feel that fancy dress and pyjamas along with the 21st anniversary of Herriot Hospice Homecare is the perfect opportunity to make this the biggest and best Midnight walk yet."

The walk will start at 10pm from Carlton Lodge Outdoor centre, Carlton Miniott, Thirsk, YO7 4DJ. Participants should meet at 9pm to 9.30pm for registration and briefing.
