VISITORS are in for a day of reckoning when a college art exhibition opens its doors to the public.

They will be greeted by an apocalyptic vision of the future thanks to zombie fan and aspiring artist Tanisha Thornton.

The Northallerton College student, from RAF Leeming, created a 3D model of a McDonald’s overrun by zombies in her own comic book adaptation of a modern icon.

Her work is part of more than 200 pieces on display at the college’s annual art and textiles exhibition, due to be staged from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday May 22.

Tanisha, is one of 175 successful students from 500 who applied for an art foundation degree course at Manchester Metropolitan University, with a view to trying to secure a place at the prestigious Goldsmith Art School in London.

“I have always loved art,” said the 18-year-old, who has her eyes set on being a freelance artist.

“I really enjoy model-making and sculpture; 3D is my favourite as it’s the most challenging. I love comic books and zombies and thought it would be interesting to explore what a McDonald’s would look like after the apocalypse.”

The exhibition is staged annually as a showcase for the work of students, some of who have spent two years preparing their portfolios, cementing the college’s reputation as a leading centre for art and textiles.
