Witnesses to a robbery close to York city centre are being sought. Just after 12.30pm on Friday, May 10 a man grabbed a handbag from a woman walking along the River Foss towpath at Foss Islands, near to Majestic Wines. When the 54-year-old woman tried to resist, he hit her, knocking her to the ground before stealing the distinctive green handbag. She was left with minor injuries and in shock. A 31-year-old man from Middlesbrough has now been arrested in connection with the incident. Detectives say they have had “tremendous” assistance from the public, but would still like to hear from any witnesses.
