A LADYBIRD, Batman and a unicyclist all had their eye on the finishing line when a primary school staged a fancy dress run.

Nearly 100 children and parents took part in the colourful fancy dress fun run at Hutton Rudby Primary School, near Stokesley, on Saturday (May 11).

Everyone taking part was invited to dress up as their favourite book character and followed a one-mile route around the grounds of the North Yorkshire school.

The event was organised by Friends of Hutton Rudby School and included a Zumba-style warm-up led by mum Justine Whiteley-Sagoo ahead of the race.

The event raised funds for the school and every child taking part received a £1 book token for taking part. Secretary of the friends, Alison Wilkinson, said the money would go towards playground improvements and an outdoor art project.

Deputy headteacher Abigail Clay said: “It was wonderful to see so many children and parents taking part, we had more participants than ever before.

“It’s become one of the annual events that the children really look forward to, as it’s such a fun way for the children to raise money. We really appreciate all of the fundraising support we get from parents, and the enthusiasm of the children.”
