A COUNTY house will host a candle-lit evening as part of a national event to see how it would have looked before the introduction of 'modern' lighting systems.
Kiplin Hall, between Scorton and Northallerton, will light its rooms with candles on Friday, May 17.
There will also be readings from some of the books in its library.
Gas lighting became more common in the 19th century, and in 1849 the owner of Kiplin Hall, the Fourth Earl of Tyrconnel, would have started to use the modern innovation.
Kiplin Hall administrator, Marcia McLuckie, said: “We are very much looking forward to this event, which is a first for Kiplin Hall. To see the house lit by such beautiful candles will be a real treat; we are very grateful to Charles Farris for the gift.”
Kiplin Hall by Candlight will take place from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, and admission is £5 per person.
