The North York Moors National Park will be allowing people to see inside the little-known Scotch Corner war memorial chapel, near Oldstead between Thirsk and Helmsley on May 18. Relatives of John Bunting, who built the chapel, will be there to speak to people. Visitors can drop in any time between midday and 4pm. It will open again on July 20.
ILKLEY MOOR WALK: Northallerton Ramblers will be undertaking a walk around Ilkley Moor on Thursday, May 16. The walk will start from Ilkley Station at 11am.For more details of the nine mile walk contact Martin on 01609-881659.
DOMINO DRIVE: A domino drive will be held at Kirby Sigston Village Hall on Wednesday (May 15), at 8pm. Entry costs £3 and includes supper. Proceeds will go towards village hall funds.
BAROQUE SHOWCASE: Sowerby Music will host the York University Baroque Orchestra on Saturday, May 18, at 7.30pm, in St Oswald’s Church, Sowerby, near Thirsk. The 30-member ensemble will perform works by Handel, Rameau, Purcell and Bach. WEDDING FOCUS: St Oswald’s Church in Sowerby will host a wedding festival on Saturday, May 11 from 10am to noon and on Sunday, (May 12), from 2pm to 4pm. A renewal of marriage vows service will be held at 6.30pm, on Sunday.
